More vocaloid maps and new level style
Hey ho! It's ZakZakNeko yapyap devlog time again :)
I'm slipping already from my expected one devlog per week, but IRL stuff just got too much. Anyways, some progress was made. First, I got somehow addicted to the early vocaloid tunes and now "triple baka" is ~50% mapped. The thing with cute songs is that they don't really fit to the original hack&slash theme of ZakZakNeko. That's why a week ago in a live stream I started to work on a new simplified background, which looks like this:
...and so we are talking about quite typical side scrolling rhythmgame feel with simple dot indicators for hits. It's funny how hitting the dots feels much more lighter than slashing enemies with a huge sword :D. Now I just need to convert the beat lines from the original theme to the new simple theme, add a suitable combo counter and of course, make the chibi (miitsi) react to player performance.
One more thing, which got much better in today's build of the game is the hit timing. What I didn't realize was that previously I programmed hit timing windows as pixel distances. Well, as BPM changes, the window sizes (in microseconds) change too, so faster songs got even harder as the timing windows for perfect/good etc. shrink. Now (as it is in all rhythmgames) the timing windows are fixed to about 120 ms being the tolerance bound for a good hit and 60 ms for the perfect hit.
At last, few words on future things: The beatmap editor should see its birth soon enough. I have most of the plans already figured out, so somehow I need to find some good 2x3-4h to flesh the code. The editor should ease mapping, as atm it is a bit of a pain to organize individual enemies on various midi tracks. After an mvp editor, it's then time to put a few YT videos out. It'll be surely some work, but I feel motivated.
Take care & have a nice weekend!
